Care & Guide

Made to evolve.

Leather is a natural material. With time, touch and use, it develops character.

Atelier Mir currently works with Nappa leather and suede, each chosen for its distinct feel and appearance. Because they are different materials, they require different kinds of care.

A little attention will help your bag age beautifully.

Nappa Leather

Soft. Smooth. Naturally expressive.

Nappa leather is known for its soft hand-feel, smooth surface and natural appearance.

With regular use, the leather may gradually become softer and develop subtle changes in colour and texture. These changes are a natural part of the material.

Everyday care

  • Handle the bag with clean hands whenever possible.

  • Avoid placing it on rough or dirty surfaces.

  • Keep it away from prolonged direct sunlight and excessive heat.

  • Avoid contact with oils, cosmetics, perfume and other substances that may mark the leather.

  • Do not overfill the bag, as excessive weight can affect its shape.

Water & moisture

Nappa leather should be protected from prolonged exposure to water.

If your bag becomes wet:

  1. Gently remove excess moisture with a clean, soft cloth.

  2. Allow it to dry naturally at room temperature.

  3. Keep it away from radiators, hairdryers and direct heat.

  4. Do not aggressively rub the wet surface.

Do not apply household cleaners or unapproved leather products.

Cleaning

For light surface marks, gently wipe the leather with a soft, clean cloth.

For deeper stains or significant damage, we recommend consulting a professional leather-care specialist.

Avoid alcohol, detergents, baby wipes, household cleaners and abrasive materials.

Suede Leather

Soft to the touch. Rich in character.

Suede has a distinctive open, velvety surface that gives it its characteristic softness and depth.

Its texture is more delicate than smooth leather, which means it requires additional care.

Small variations in colour and texture are natural and may become more pronounced as the suede is handled and worn.

Everyday care

  • Avoid excessive friction against rough surfaces.

  • Keep the bag away from oils, creams, cosmetics and liquids.

  • Avoid placing the suede on dirty or wet surfaces.

  • Do not overload the bag.

  • Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, which can affect colour.

Water & moisture

Suede is particularly sensitive to water.

Avoid carrying your suede bag in heavy rain or exposing it to significant moisture.

If it becomes wet, gently blot the moisture with a clean, dry cloth and allow it to dry naturally.

Never use direct heat to dry suede.

Do not rub wet suede, as this can alter the texture and spread the mark.

Brushing

Once completely dry, a suede-specific brush can be used gently to restore the surface texture.

Always brush lightly and in a consistent direction.

Avoid aggressive brushing, which can damage the fibres.

Cleaning

Do not use standard leather creams, oils or conditioners on suede.

These products are designed for smooth leather and can permanently alter the appearance of suede.

For significant stains or damage, we recommend professional suede or leather cleaning.

Storage

When your Atelier Mir bag is not being used:

  1. Empty the bag completely.

  2. Gently reshape it.

  3. Place it inside the Atelier Mir dust bag.

  4. Store it in a cool, dry and well-ventilated place.

  5. Keep it away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.

Avoid storing leather in plastic for prolonged periods.

For longer storage, lightly fill the bag with clean tissue paper to help maintain its shape.

Natural Variations

No two pieces of natural leather are perfectly identical.

You may notice subtle differences in:

  • Grain

  • Texture

  • Colour

  • Softness

  • Surface markings

These are natural characteristics of leather and suede, not necessarily imperfections.

Over time, your bag may develop a patina — subtle changes created through use, touch and exposure to everyday life.

We believe these changes are part of what makes a bag personal.

What to Avoid

For both Nappa leather and suede, avoid:

  • Prolonged exposure to water

  • Direct heat

  • Excessive sunlight

  • Harsh cleaning products

  • Alcohol and detergents

  • Excessive weight

  • Rough or abrasive surfaces

  • Storing the bag in plastic

  • Unapproved leather treatments

For suede specifically, avoid oils, creams and standard smooth-leather conditioners.

Let it become yours.

Your Atelier Mir bag is not designed to remain exactly as it was on the day you received it.

It is designed to be carried.

To travel with you.

To soften with time.

To collect the small signs of a life well lived.
